Objectives and goals
Lately there has been an increase in the number of varieties cultivated with negative effects on the uniformity of the product produced. Most of the time, either during harvesting or during ripening, different varieties with different characteristics are mixed, making it impossible to standardize the product. This creates significant problems for Greek cotton to become competitive in the markets. A bale of cotton coming out of the gin most often does not contain cotton of the same variety and quality so that it cannot be given an identity and the producer can not be paid accordingly.
Another key point is that with the current harvesting & management practice it is not possible to pay for the final product based on its quality. The system may provide a solution to this problem. The system receives data from cotton picking machines of cylindrical bales, which it processes with the help of special algorithms, in order to help the user in choosing the appropriate disposal strategy and standardization of his production according to the point of harvest, variety, humidity and other characteristics making now possible to sell the harvested product at better prices. It is estimated that such a tool will give a new dynamic to the important branch of cotton cultivation in Greece.
